Why aren't more people concerned about the attacks on Israeli/Jews? There's been a definite campaign of intimidation, vandalism, and now personal attacks. Nowhere else in the entire United States is this happening. And despite the attempts to spin it as mutual, the Muslim/Palestinian groups haven't received so much as a slur. When Youmans was asked by the Chronicle what intimidation his people had gotten, he could only make the ridiculous claim that Cal Jews planning to join the IDF 'intimidated' him. (Because, you know, there's nothing more threatening then your enemy MOVING THOUSANDS OF MILES AWAY.)
This is one-sided, and it's about to hit the news. CNN was just here. The regional newspapers are slowly realizing this is bigger than usual. Soon the commentators will get wind, and then Berkeley will have yet another controversy. I can smell it. And when that happens, the Administration is going to be exposed as stone-cold appeasers. Even the blatant assault in daylight of two Orthodox Jews got no rise out of them. That was one block from campus. As Nolo points out, if Berdahl tries to go on TV and have it both ways, like he does here, he's gonna get killed. MSA and SJP are gonna look bad, too. They have nothing to claim for counter-persecution. Nothing. Even the slightest insult would give them a figleaf, but this has been entirely one-sided. It's a hoary old thought trick, but imagine if Palestinians were suffering this level of persecution. Hard to say how well the news would cover it, but the reaction on campus would be massive. This will get worse before it gets better. UPDATE: It's unclear if the attacks were anti-semiitic. See above.Email This Post! |
