Squelch! Party Challenges Statement Alterations

In a turnaround from their typical comic antics, the Squelch! Party challenged the ASUC Elections Council’s decision to alter three of its candidates’ voter guide statements for obscenity at a Judicial Council hearing last night.

Squelch! Party candidates traded in their campaign vibrators for suits last night as they brought charges against Elections Council Publicity Coordinator Rebecca Simon for changing all uses of “fuck” to “f*ck” in candidate Matt Holohan’s statement.

“The voters need to receive full access to whatever the candidates have to say to make an informed decision,” said Squelch! external affairs vice president candidate David Duman. “This is protected by the First Amendment.”

Simon also replaced the letters “a,” “i” and “u” in “damn”, “shit” and “cunt” by asterisks, which were in two other Squelch! candidates’ statements.

However, Simon maintained that her changes are within her power.

“It’s clear that the candidate wants to be represented as using vulgarity, but the voter is not bombarded by unnecessary obscenity,” she said.

The council is expected to make its decision within the next few days.
