Judicial Council Hearing Called To Judge Constitutionality of EO 3
Judicial Council Chairman Mike Davis has called a hearing to discuss the legality of EO 3, which was announced earlier this week. EO 3 amends part of Article I of Title IV of the ASUC by-laws to allow for the Judicial Council to issue punishments of different degrees if need be (read: the DAAP situation). The conflict comes between Article II, Section C of the ASUC Constitution, which dictates the terms by which an Executive Order is made, and Article X, Section 2, which states that amendments to the by-laws must be made by the ASUC Senate. In an interview with CalStuff, ASUC President Misha Leybovich said that he felt EO 3 was "on very solid ground." "What could be more urgent and necessary than this? If I don’t do this, the Senate can't meet," he continued. The Judicial Council hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, July 14 at 8 PM. Email This Post! |
