Greek Moratorium! (Whatever exactly that means)
So the Daily Cal finally ran an article on the Ferry Frat Fight, and included this slightly ominous quotation: University officials said they are looking into drafting a proposal to further examine the “cumulative situation of Greek organizations” regarding hazing and alcohol-related incidents, Kenney said.I didn't quite understand what that meant at the time, although word from the InterFraternity Council Meeting yesterday was that Interim Greek Advisor (I think that's his title) James Walker relayed a message from Vice Chancellor of Something Padilla that the University is looking into some type of "moratorium" for the Greek Community, that will be announced in the next two weeks. There were very few details, and VC Padilla was supposed to attend the meeting himself, but was unable to make it. I'll follow up on this, and try to find out any details on what the university might be proposing for the Greek Community. As always, if anyone out there in commentland was at the meeting, please chime in with any details you have about what happened at the meeting. My initial thoughts are that 1) This is the University just engaging in more scare tactics directed at the Greek Community, except they've been making threats for so long, that if they want students to take them seriously, it's probably getting to the point where they will actually have to do something. 2) The two recent incidents that have Greeks in hot water (the Pi Kapp thing, and the Ferry Fight) are not incidents that would be in any way affected by a alcohol moratorium, such as the one we had three years ago.Email This Post! |
